Assistant Principal John Skerritt was placed on leave this week, the Shelton School District announced, as he is the latest involved in a criminal police investigation. He had been named the acting principal of the school when former principal Beth Smith was placed on administrative leave earlier this year.

Smith was placed on administrative leave two days after it was announced that an investigation has been launched targeting administrators at the school in relation to a potentially criminal incident involving two students on Tuesday, March 26.

“John Skerritt, Assistant Principal of Shelton High School, is on paid administrative leave as of yesterday afternoon. This action is not disciplinary in nature.  He will be out until the investigation by Shelton Police is concluded,” Schools Superintendent Chris Clouet stated.

Clouet said that Ken Saranich, the principal of Shelton Intermediate School and Lorraine Rossner, the Assistant Superintendent will help cover administrative duties at Shelton High until further notice. It is the third time in two weeks that the district was forced to fill their top position at the high school.

He added that “Shelton High continues to be a safe and productive educational environment for all our students, faculty, and staff.”
